  • Married couples or couples living together and sharing
    financial decisions own 78.6% of total personally held wealth.     
  • The average wealth of a married couple or couple living
    together and sharing financial decisions is $388,700 (higher
    than adding the average wealth of an unmarried man and
    woman or doubling either figure).  

    These figures are based on the 1998 Survey of Consumer Finances.
