Bequest Language:  Wondering What Words to Use?

The following is an example of appropriate bequest language:

"I give, devise and bequeath to LEGAL NAME OF CHARITY located in CITY, STATE, the sum of $______ dollars (or ______% of my residuary estate) for such purposes as the Board (or governing body) shall determine to be in the bests interests of CHARITY.

This sample language would establish an unrestricted bequest. A donor’s advisor may modify the language to include a specific purpose. For example:

"I give, devise and bequeath to UNIVERSITY located in CITY, STATE, the sum of $_____ (or _____% of my residuary estate) to establish The John and Mary Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund."
