Project Rural Cloth Weavers Development Funding Amount $5000
  
Project Defined This project needs: 50 weaving chairs, Chairs and Tables for six offices, Chairs and Tables for Community/Training room,Chalk Board, · 6 Computers and 6 printers for the six offices and the Community/Training room,Drafting Table, 3 Vehicles for use by the KDACW staff for the transportation of needed materials and finished goods, and other Center operations, 6 land telephones for the five offices and the Community/Training Room, 4 Cell phones for four of the staff: Project Director, Center Coordinator, Center Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator, Warps, wefts, and looms, and Patterning Boards
  
Project Needs This project is a Community-based Sierra Leonean Cloth Weaving program called the “Kenema District Association of Cloth Weavers” (KDACW) will be established in Kenema Town, the Headquarter town of the Kenema District of Sierra Leone. KDACW will focus on providing extensive training for the youth, especially those affected by the ten years civil war in the country. It is expected that through the provision of the Jawei cloth weaving training to the youth of Kenema District, it will be possible to have a direct and positive effect on the welfare of the youth that will receive the training, as well as help the local government in the eradication of the high unemployment rate in the Kenema District. KDACW will utilize volunteers who are the expert Jawei Cloth Weavers, and who now live permanently in Kenema Town. Each Cloth Weaver is expected to successfully participate in an 8 months cloth weaving program at the beginning of the KDACW activities. This training program will provide basic “satin” or plain cloth weaving technology to the youth of Kenema District. The Cloth Weavers will be invited to participate in an advanced “Twill” or patterned cloth weaving technology. Each Cloth Weaving Trainer will be expected to contribute 30-40 hours each week, and to continue with the KDACW for another period of not less than 6 months. The funds obtained for this project will be used to carry out needs of the project.
