PROJECT ADOPTION

Project Jaffa Institute summer camp program Funding Amount $1000

Project Defined The Jaffa Institute develops summer camp activities at various sites including the Pahad Center in Jaffa, at our activity centers in Bat Yam, Neve Ofer, and Jerusalem, and special summer activities for residential students at Bet Shemesh. The aim of the summer camp is to provide underprivileged children a fun, healthy, safe and educational alternative to being on the streets. The goal of the program is two-fold: (1) to provide a "hook" to disadvantaged children to engage them in positive activities that have the potential to enhance their social, academic and personal growth; (2) to furnish an opportunity for the youth to have a voice to express themselves through the arts and the sport activities. In addition to our two-month Summer Camp program, the Jaffa Institute Camp is unique also in that during the summer months, our Therapeutic Center remains open so children who receive social and educational support services during the school year are able to continue therapy without a break.

Project Needs Whereas most camps in Israel only operate during the month of July, the Jaffa Institute Summer Camps are one of the only summer camps in Israel that run in both July and August. Each child's two-month summer camp experience costs the Institute $750. With this summer's enrollment numbers reaching record highs, the Jaffa Institute turns to friends and supporters to help us raise the over $300,000 needed to continue providing quality summer alternatives for Israel's most at-risk children.
